ASUS TUF RTX 3070 Gaming PC Build 2021

A powerful 1440p Gaming PC Build for the latest Triple AAA titles in 2021, featuring an RTX 3070 and new Cooler Master MB540 case!

1440p gaming in 2021 has never been better, with the release of new powerful GPUs from AMD and Nvidia. In this build we’ve put together a fantastic RTX 3070 system, that boasts strong credentials for high frame gaming in the latest titles.

Alongside an ASUS TUF RTX 3070, this build also features some of the latest new products from Cooler Master – noteably the new MB540 computer case and MA612 Stealth CPU cooler!

The Parts

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X

Front and centre in any good PC build is the processor, the CPU. I would say this is actually one of the most overlooked parts in any Gaming PC as we move into the second half of 2021. With such huge performance gains in graphics cards on both the AMD and Nvidia side, the last thing you want to do is fall into a CPU ‘bottleneck’.

A ‘bottleneck’ occurs when one component holds back another, and is why it is so important to find well-balanced components. To be clear, all PCs will have a limiting factor somewhere, but you want to make sure the GPU isn’t getting stuck at 70%. The Ryzen 5 5600X does that well for a 3070 – at least in gaming applications.

With 6 cores, 12 threads and modest 65W TDP it is an efficient and fast chip, that leaves Intel lagging well behind in 2021 on raw performance.

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master MA612 Stealth

Cooling the Ryzen 5 5600X can be more of a challenge than keeping its processor, the 3600X, nice and chilly. This Cooler Master MA612 Stealth model is arguably a little overkill for that task, but it does do things quietly. A large heatsink and 2 fans gives plenty of cooling power, allowing the fans to run that bit slower. Teamwork makes the dreamwork, in the case of CPU cooling fans!

Selecting a good GPU in 2021 has never been harder – and sadly not because of the great releases we’ve seen recently. More so because of the availability issues which have plagued gamers since September of 2020. Cards have never been so hard to come by, nor so expensive on the used market before.

We love the RTX 3000 range, and the consensus has bee incredibly positive industry wide. The step change in performance from last generation is nothing short of fantastic, while Nvidia have brought to market a great set of RTX features that will satisfy gamers across the board. Ray Tracing gains are really solid, but raw performance above all else is top tier. You just can’t buy one.

Many of our viewers have had some luck with Newegg’s ‘Shuffle’, a raffle based queue system, while some retailers in the UK have transparent waiting lists. Hopefully the situation will improve as we head further in to 2021, but I’m not so sure.

RAM: Patriot Viper Steel RGB

In the memory department, Patriot come in strong with 16GB of their new Viper Steel kit. With a much improved aesthetic, the kit looks streamlined and sleek. The RGB is bright, vivid and adds a great touch to any build.

SSD/Storage: Samsung 980 500GB SSD

Storage is nicely handled by a new SSD from Samsung – this is a build seemingly full of brand new components on the market! With a 500GB capacity there’s enough room for a modest game library, though 1TB options and above are also available.

It isn’t a Gen 4 drive (sadly), but those are just so much more expensive that I think Gen 3 is still the way to go, at least for the time being.

Keep scrolling for the rest of the components, but remember: we’ve uploaded a video version of this build below!

Motherboard: NZXT N7 B550 Motherboard

The new NZXT N7 B550 has to be one of the most hotly anticipated motherboards of 2021. NZXT’s first entry into the motherboard market came with their popular N7 Z490 board, but I couldn’t help but feel they’d picked the wrong side.

With AMD so dominant in CPU performance in 2021, it is great to have a good AMD board from team NZXT, with their signature aesthetic charm. I’m also pleased NZXT went down the B550 route, and not the X570 one, as it is the better value chipset all round.

Case: Cooler Master Masterbox 540

With nearly all of the components rounded up, it is about time we had a chassis or case to build them into! The Cooler Master Masterbox 540 is yet another new to market component in this config. With some cool RGB lighting up front, tempered glass and a standard Mid Tower design it ticks all of the boxes nicely.

FUTURISTIC? RGB? Affordable? That will be A yes to all of the above.

PSU: Cooler Master MWE750 Gold

Finally, the last of the components to look at is the power supply.

Performance & Benchmarking

Awesome stuff – we’ve covered off all the parts in our system and its now time to run some games, about 15 to be precise, to see what kind of performance figures we’re able to achieve! At 1440p high settings the numbers the numbers looked good, while 1080p is an ever better story – predictable.

Games tested include: Apex Legends, COD Cold War, COD Warzone, Control, CS:GO, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Fortnite, GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant, Watch Dogs: Legion & Overwatch!

Performance aside, one super important factor with any build is how it looks …right?! This build is a bit of a stunner if I do say so myself, and below is a gallery of some of the awesome stills we pulled from this system – take a look!
